Starting Over

morning sun

Good morning!  Don't you love the sunrise?  So much of my life went by without ever seeing it....boy, now I am.  I guess I'm making up for lost time, getting up at 2am.  Not that long ago, that was my bedtime!

So, my blog title is Starting Over....and in many ways, I am.  I've deleted my facebook accounts, both my personal page and business page.  Blogging is my only form of social media now.  I don't watch tv, and relied on facebook for news, following both national, international and local news there.  But you know, I didn't like the affect it was having on me....people on facebook get very judgemental (without having all the facts) and my local news was getting into the act, asking opinions on different events, like should someone go to jail - really?  It seems nobody gets a trial by peers in a courtroom anymore.  It was getting to me, and I was stressing out over it all, so bye-bye.

MUCH happier now.

Starting Over also has to do with my new job.  I'm really enjoying it, not so much the hours but the job itself is fine.  I worked 3 days last week, and by the time I got off work Saturday I was exhausted, going to bed at 4pm.  I'll get used to it, lol.

And now for the quilty part.  I've come to realize that my tastes are changing again, I have some ideas for quilts I want to make, and for some reason always see them in autumn colors, kind of primitive.  I'd like to start collecting Kim Diehl fabrics - her colors just glow - although my latest idea for a crib-size quilt uses rainbow fabrics.  I just got my background fabric from the FatQuarterShop.

It's Moda Marbles, Baby Blue.  Pretty!!

I finally got my new glasses, only took them 3 doctors and two tries to get them right.  No pics.

I started attaching the binding on my Garden of Contentment quilt.

LOVING IT.

I'm Starting Over with my sewing machines also.  I've retired my Viking, it needs work and I just can't afford it right now.  I was thinking I'd wait until I get a few more projects quilted, but then I remembered I had purchased a walking foot for my Featherweight.  I'd like to do big quilts by hand - I miss hand quilting, so the Featherweight is fine for small projects.  I like the fact that I can repair the Featherweight myself.

Even with my wardrobe I'm Starting Over.  All the articles of clothing that are getting threadbare are out the door, and I'm shopping end-of-season clearance.  Normally I only purchase clothing at thrift stores, but I'm finding great prices in retail shops.  Out with all the uncomfortable clothes in my closet!!

I think that's all the news from Allie-land - by deleting facebook from my life, I have SO much more time to peruse blogs, and keep up with everyone.  And the bonus is how much more peaceful my life is.

I pray your week is peaceful too -

Love,
Allie

New page and chapter in life can be very rejuvenating! So glad you took the step. Looking forward to seeing more of your blog - I missed it! We love the motivation and inspiration we get from our quilting blogs, but social media can be very exhausting mentally. I'm finding that out since starting my IG account. I love to share - to hopefully inspire others; and I love to encourage others, just as I had and still am encouraged, but it is time-consuming too. Enjoy your new chapter Allie :)!!

Good for you, Allie. Although I'm not severed (sp?), I only visit FB once a week just to see what old highschool friends are doing. Gotta say, your GOC quilt is beautiful and I can't wait to see the new one dancing around in your mind.

So interesting to read this post Allie. Seems to be a trend right now to disconnect from the social media things as they can and do eat up a lot of time. Glad you've found some work that suits you..test driving sounds interesting. My Garden of Contentment is all set up ready to be quilted. I'm thinking in the fall I might have more nerve, LOL.

Sounds like things are going great for you!! I applaud you for dropping facebook! It's such a time waster, isn't it? For me, it's like a train wreck; I can't stop looking. lol I think of all the time I have wasted looking at all the "stupid" posts.... rarely, do I find anything that is life changing for me. :-))

We're getting an upgrade - a new and improved Allie! Sounds like all of the changes are positive - always good to take stock of where your life is heading and steer it in the right direction! I wish you the best on this path!

Love Starting Over! I've never wanted to be on Facebook, and I'm so glad I never did, with all the hype about privacy issues. And yes the news is dreadful. I don't watch it either. And clothes! I'm with you. I've found so many good bargains at the retail stores with coupons and sales. And the thrift stores are becoming more expensive than if you bought it new. Way to go, girl!

This is a great post. It's good to realize when you need a new start and are able to actually make the changes necessary to follow through. I rarely visit FB. I only joined to see pics my kids post, but realized really early that I did not want to see the other stuff they post. I hate the political crap that gets posted. My husband thrives on the prank videos that are shared there and I get really annoyed when he says "look at THIS one". Not my humor at all.

I'm so glad that you continue to blog. I visit and read all your posts, but seldom comment but I'll be sure to do so in the future so that you know that you are appreciated.

It's funny how our taste changes over time. A different color appeals to us. A different style of quilt making and sewing. It make the world and marketing go 'round.

Have a glorious day.
xx, Carol

A new start is a challenge, and will be so good, by the sound of your words. I am a morning person, up with the fowls, and would so struggle to work at night, hope your early starts are suiting you just fine. , and the sneak look at the rainbow quilt under the new fabric, looks so pretty on the drafting paper.Morning glory in your back yard, what wonderful friends right there.

I'm happy for you Allie. I know how much you liked driving cars. I generally only use Facebook to keep in touch with family. Hugs

Thanks for this article. This is great written, I like how people describe such things in a simple and understandable way. I am very happy that I can read these articles.

I hope that starting over works well for you! I certainly hear you regarding FB. I finally succumbed and have FB, but it’s strictly for quilting. If someone I follow puts up a post that’s isnt related to quilting, I generally delete it immediately. If someone posts several unquilting related posts, I just unfollow them. I seldom post, myself, except to announce a new blog post. Once in awhile, I will share a post. I had just found that several quilters I’ve followed for years are only on FB or IG now, and I didn’t want to miss their work. So I thought I’d give it a try. So far, so good. I’m looking forward to your future posts, Allie.

Fresh starts are always good... and the best thing is that we can choose what we do and do not take along with us....
Glad work is going well.....

Good for you, starting over!! I don't watch tv and see "the news" on FB. Every day I get more annoyed with the posts on FB ! I am thinking of fixing my settings, so I only see quilt-related posts. So much garbage comes along.

Sounds like a great fresh new start Allie. I got bored with facebook sometime ago and now use Instagram. It's a quick way to share photo's and I am very selective with who I follow - pretty pictures only, no politics! Glad the job is working out for you and I look forward to following your new quilting direction. xx

Allie, I admire you for starting over - especially with not using Facebook anymore. And especially at our age ;-) I find that I have less computer time with the kids with us all the time now so I make it count. I try to keep up with friends at FB and a couple of blogs but that's about it. Besides, the kids are more important anyway!

Hi Allie, Very inspiring. Facebook and Instagram really can be time suckers and you're so right about the negativity. God bless you in your new endeavors! I'm looking forward to see what kind of quilt you're making!

Good for you!!! I find FB upsets my depression and anxiety way too much. I haven't closed it but I'm never on it and I'm logged out of it on my phone. I do live on IG though. I've found a wonderful community of lovely people there and I have so much more control and when the negatives start I just block it out.

I need to finish my quilt blocks and then quilt it. I love hand quilting too. Thank you for sharing the patterns with us. I want to gift mine as a Christmas present so I need to pull it back out.

Looking forward to what the future holds for you.

What a wonderful final picture of peace that is. Congratulations, Allie! It's hard to start over and change things we don't like. Between you and Jenny, if I had ever had a FB account, I would probably be deleting it. LOL. I blog and IG, and that's it. IG is positive, you can block people you don't want tagging along, and it's fast if you don't follow thousands. =) I haven't found a mean person on there yet. I'm happy for your changes, because you seem to be happy with them. =)

We have some things in common: deer visit us in our back yard / woods daily. We love them! I have a Viking (mine is newer so has years of sewing left on it), and I also have a Featherweight. For a start.
