Straight to Summer

It's just noon and already 91F.  I think we've skipped spring.  Not complaining mind you - after the winter, it seems I can't get enough warmth!!

Do you remember that bulb I planted April 9th?

Guess what is finally coming up!

So exciting.  My African Violets are doing well after getting a new home as well.  The one without flowers has buds.

I was at the library the other day, they had a robin build a nest on the outside of the window in the children's department - so neat!

They've been live-streaming everything.  What a great learning experience for the kiddos.

Not much has been happening on the stitching front.  Mom's home is getting more and more dangerous, so I broke down and called A Place For Mom.  Wow can I recommend them!  So incredibly helpful.  So far I've been contacted by four places, all close by, and mum is very excited - we're going to be taking tours.  They may be able to get her some financial help as she's the spouse of TWO war veterans.  I can't say enough good about this organization.

Bear with me, I'm going to whine a bit - I saw a quilt pattern that I fell in love with the other day, and followed the link to the website.  The digital pattern was over $80!!!  Is this a trend?  I was appalled.  I don't pay that much for a whole BOOK of patterns.  I may be dating myself, but I remember when patterns were no more than $8, and fabric was $3/yd....rant over...

Today is my brother's birthday, we're celebrating tomorrow.  Last year, the fawns were born on his birthday.  I've seen no doe activity around here, but the neighbors have all been working outside, so they may be staying away.  Since I have no pics of baby deer, I'll share a pic of Sophie...how she loves my son!

I hope you have a very blessed Memorial Day weekend, all those in the States - and the rest of you, have a great weekend too!  See ya soon!
Love,
Allie

Maybe there was an error in the pricing, I have seen one for about $38, but it was a very complicated beautiful applique quilt, with heaps of detail. I would email them to see. Your Mum, if she is happy about a move that is a wonderful start, and help with costs, that is so good. After all, her men have put so much into what they did. Keep cool, we are straight into winter, autumn skipped by ion a few weeks, and now lots of snow in the far south, and about 2 hours north of us. Even my fingerless mitts have come in handy this morning, it was 3 C outside in a sheltered porch,.

Good grief. $80 for a digital pattern. I won't even pay that for paper patterns/books. Hope it works out for your Mum & that will be great if she gets the financial help. I think we've skipped autumn & headed straight to winter. :( Hugs,xx

Gook luck with Mom. I know you've had a lot of worries about her. Your bulb is coming along well, and I love the pot you have her in. Enjoy your long weekend.

Hi Allie boy that sounds like a lot of money for a digital pattern,i wonder if people pay that or whether there was a printing mistake. Hope things get sorted out for your dear mum and love beautiful Sophie, hope your day is a good one my friend xx

Your plants look so pretty and great to see that bulb appear. Wow - 80$ for a pattern. Definitely a bit steep. Enjoy the birthday celebrations. xx

That price of $80 seems a bit high...Does nothing come with it? Just a pdf? Wow.
Glad to hear you have found a place for your mom as it is very hard to find nice places that don't cost an arm or leg.
Love your violets - I'm lucky I still have my Christmas cactus! ;-)
Enjoy the birthday celebration!

I guess I'm dated too, because I remember those prices too. I know that's not in my budget either. I bypass numerous patterns because of exorbitant costs. I understand designers have to make a living, but the fees for a digital pattern go beyond its cost, I must still figure in paper and ink and those are expensive too.

I'm sorry mom has hit this point in her journey, but so happy to hear that the search for new arrangements is going well.

And we seem to have missed spring as well. Wishing you a blessed weekend as well.

Your flowers look awesome, like the pink pots/watering can!!! Not sure about that price for a pattern, maybe she added a 0??? Seems very weird to me! Glad you are working on the situation for Mom! Hope you find a perfect place for her! Have a wonderful weekend dear Allie!! Hugs!

Happy Memorial Day Allie. Pattern prices are outrageous,. I think most of the world forgets we the crafter's are mostly just housewives with out salaries of our own. I hardly ever buy actual patterns. I sadly subsist off of free ones. Don't get me wrong I would love to be be able to pay for many beautiful patterns that I see. I have cancer, a bad back since a wreck we were in 2 years ago and my daughter has many health problems too from the wreck. But Cancer isn't cheap even with insurance which just about tripled on all our payments. In addition a daughter in college we have to pay and get loans for and Taking care of a special needs child since birth for the last 24 soon to be 25 years. In addition to having to take care of every one else in my family constantly. I seem to have inherited the care taker position. I'm not complaining . I am blessed to be here and be able to do all of these things and be everything for everyone. But patterns are expensive

Yes, it seems Spring somehow passed us by too, but thankful the nights still get cooler so far. Love the baby nest and live streaming they are doing for all the children. Lovely blooms - looking forward to seeing the process on the centre sprout. Happy Memorial Day Allie! We just enjoyed Victoria Day here last weekend!

Wow that is a crazy price - I am sure she must have been listening to people telling her to charge enough to recoup her costs, but if she lowered the price, more people would buy the pattern so her costs/time would be recouped that way. The pattern must be very nice, but most people can't afford that for a pattern alone. Was it a kit maybe? Your violets are beautiful.

A pink watering can planter pot. LIFE IS GOOD! Except when a digital quilt pattern is $80 - is it a quilt to cover a hot air balloon ... or ???!!! Sounds like a typo or a kit price! Sophie looks very happy - I forgot to say in my other comment about her, that rescues are The Best. Such a caring and lovely way to get a new furry family member - and I honestly think that they know somehow, in some way, how lucky they are, and that they appreciate it!

Hi Allie, Glad to see that your mother is excited about finding a place and I hope you find one very close to you! That really is a lot for a pattern. Maybe it was originally a BOM and this is the price for all the months added together?

It sounds good about your mum. My dad and step-mother are talking about downsizing. They have a two story house with a finished basement that has 5 bedrooms and 4 baths. My dad just turned 85. They definitely don't need all that room but my step-mother will start having anxiety about having to give up some of her sets of china if they lived in a smaller house. I will roll my eyes here...
80 dollars seems a bit excessive for an asking price. I've got something, I remember gas wars at two neighboring gas stations not far from the house I grew up in. The gas would get to 11 and 12 cents a gallon. When I would go to the fabric store with my mother she was always amazed that Vogue patterns could ask up to $5 for a pattern. I just finished up making a miniature diaper bag for my 2 year old granddaughter. I was able to make it with fabric I had bought some time ago from a free tutorial I found online. The fabric I used was an unusual color but it had a cute kitty print on it. When I went to find some thread to sew it with from my supply I was having trouble matching it until I found an old spool that had been my mothers. It was one of those gold colored plastic ones from back in the day and had a price of 15 cents on it. Ah well things have changed. Her party is tomorrow at a park and it is gong to be in the 100,s.
Have a wonderful weekend dear friend.

Awww, those decisions are so difficult to make regarding our parents and their safety. I hope things fall into place for you. I recently looked at a pattern that was a vintage reproduction , that was $40 or $50. Needless to say, I moved on....... Wow, on $80!! Your flowers are pretty and so is the kitty. Have a great weekend!

Hope you had a beautiful Memorial Day my dear. Happy Birthday to your brother. I can not imagine $80 for a pattern. Do you think it could of been a typo? or did it come with some do dads to make it?
Hope you have a beautiful day.

Ranting with you. There are several patterns I like, but I can't afford them. They are usually whole quilts with lots of embroidery designs, like Gail Pan. I can't pay that whole amount at once on my budget. Which is why I love you and Jenny so much! And Kathy Schmitz.
