Holy Wow!

Boy did it get cold - seems like just yesterday it was 90+, and today it struggled to get to 67F!  I'm sitting here freezing in my hoodie....somebody send some sun!  This is more like autumn than late summer!

I've been keeping busy.  I downloaded the Overdrive app for my phone, so I can borrow library books and read them on my kindle app.  Wow do I love that!  Unfortunately, the book I'm "reading" at the moment was only available as an audio book....so it's taking forever to get through.  I can read a book in a day, but they sure don't talk as fast as I read.

So while I've been listening [Amelia Peabody series if you're interested], I've been stitching.  After finishing the Sweet Country series, I needed some quick applique.  I've uploaded 5 new applique blocks to my craftsy shop, they're just blocks, so you can use them anywhere - kitchen towels, pillows, baby blankets, children's clothing.  I'm calling them Dollar Deals, because each one is only one dollar!  The first one is the Sunflower block -

I haven't stitched it yet, because I want to do a bunch of them in batiks.  All different colors of batiks, then make them into a little wallhanging with a scrappy border.

The next ones are a group of cacti - I call them Cactus Garden.

Just simple stuff, but it pleases me.  I'm thinking of putting these on a set of towels for my aunt.

While I've been busy indoors, hubby has been busy outside.  He's cleared the forest in back of underbrush, we could set picnic tables back there now - and he's been working on the fire pit.  He's done an amazing job.  The other day he was out there working on it and the deer came by to munch some apples - they didn't seem bothered by him at all!  Especially this fellow -

Sorry for the quality of the pics, it was getting dark.  Amazing how tame these deer are!

I've got a busy weekend coming up, tomorrow is my son's 23rd birthday!  My baby.  Hard to believe.  We're celebrating Saturday as he forgot to get off work tomorrow.  I can only hope he doesn't forget to get time off for our upcoming trip to Florida!!

Gotta run, must find my wool socks - see you soon!

Love,
Allie

Here we are, 5 Celsius this morning, barely a frosty touch on the lawn, and spring bulbs flowering. And you have deer on your lawn, and your summer is almost done. Keep those woollies close.

We've had a weird winter. Last week we were in summer clothes & then by the weekend jumpers were needed. Love your appliques. Hugs,xx

Cute little applique blocks! I think our temps are only in the 70's for at least a week! Lovely to be outdoors, but kind of cool for pool weather. We had a sewing group today, and the hostess invited us to swim in her pool, but I was the only one who came prepared. What a bunch of wimps. I love hoodie weather, and can't wait til it gets here.....

Ps your blocks are great. I love listening to books - especially when I am pinning a quilt or in the car...

I am loving the cooler temps at night and it will be in the 70's this weekend, perfect camping weather.
I got overdrive but had problems with it, but I get books in kindle form and love that i can get good books for free and read them on the iPad. Love all your blocks, really fun pieces.

Happy birthday to your son. I hope you all have a great time celebrating tomorrow. Florida, eh? At least it's not Texas with the hurricane on its way. Cute blocks, Allie.

I'm looking forward to those 60s days! Right now, I can open the windows in the morning - or overnight, but I don't do that - and leave them airing out the house for 3-4 hours before it's time to close up. I like the reduction in my electric bill, too! It's autumn in the morning and summer in the afternoon! Love your appliques. Those cacti are right up my alley (with no oops!), and I like the towel idea. The sunflower will ge great in batiks.

67 degrees is my absolute favorite temperature!
Sorry Allie, my baby is thirty! UGH! Where has that time gone???
Love the deer picture with your husband. Isn't this the way life should be? All living together and getting along? If only that were the case all over!

We were in Ohio last week visiting friends. It was hot one day and the next it was 56 degrees! What a contrast.

I couldn't live without Overdrive! I have a pair of wireless earbuds so I can listen and sew at the same tine. Did you start the Amelia Peabody books from the beginning?

Does the cool weather mean fall is on the way to your area? I know you live north, north.

Forgot to say that you sure are one fast reader! I took speed reading in high school and do read faster than some but I spend a lot of time on my quilting so no reading a book a day for me.

I tend to read fast too, skimming over parts that don't 'grab me'..lol. Those cactus appliques are darling!
