Who Has More Fun?

Sitting here on a late Friday night, listening to the rain and sleet hitting my window, waiting for my youngest cub to return home to the den....pencil [and eraser] in hand, eating chocolate, drinking tea.....you can keep all the parties in the world, all the expensive vacations, THIS is what I long for.  This is Bliss.

There really is no place like home.

I wanted to share with you what my friend Shirley has been working on.  She's been very creative lately.  Apparently all it takes to get her going is for a grandchild to announce they're going to have a baby.  She's in charge of decorating the nursery, and it's all Snoopy!  She got a coloring book and started making.....

Those are all individual pieces, they're quilted and bound with a zig-zag edge.  I'm not sure how they're going to hang them on the wall, but aren't they cute?

This is the big one....

Some people are just too clever.

I'm back on 40 hours at work, but it's all in four days a week.  I've been so tired lately, I didn't even turn my computer on from Sunday to Friday!  I'm going to try to catch up with you this weekend.  Think I can do it?  *G*  As I'm driving for work, I think about my "other" life, my cyber-life, filled with warmth and friends and bursting with creativity - how I miss it.  And you.  Be blessed, my friends....

Records, Ugh.

We're breaking records this year, and I don't mean the vinyl kind.  So what do you do when you have record-breaking cold, and record-breaking snow?  Hypnotize yourself by making a record-breaking number of French knots.

Which, actually, I love to do.  I have my own crazy method - I use a pillow on my lap and when I stab the needle through, wrapped, I stab it into the pillow to hold it, while I reach underneath to pull it through.  It keeps my knot from coming out.

My shift was called off for tonight, so I'm home wrapping and stabbing.  Huddled under a comforter, with the heating pad.  Yes it's that cold.  March is relentless so far.  We're 3 inches from the snowiest winter ever!  Enough already.

My lovely friend Patty flew in last week from Florida, to go through some of her mum's quilts and stuff.  I only knew her mum before she started quilting - but she went on to win awards.  She was the sweetest woman, I didn't know her well but I remember her with fondness and admiration.  In going through her mum's things, Patty found some wooden blocks that her mum had in her sewing room, and blessed me with them.

I will treasure them, as one of my best friends ever gave them to me, and they came from her sweet mum.  I have a shelf somewhere, stored, that I need to find, it will be perfect to display these blocks.  Better than in front of my ugly tv, lol.

And now back to my stitching - stay warm, dear friends, keep dreaming of spring!

11 For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; 12 The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; 13 The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.  Song of Solomon KJV

Almost Spring...

Honest.  It's coming.  It'll be here soon.  Never mind the snow, the ice, the below zero temps.....the sun shone today.  I put on actual sunglasses.

One of my favorite spots to go in the warm weather is Port Huron, Michigan.  It's a very busy border crossing town [used to live there].  Sunday, my girlfriend from London Ontario met me there, and we got a motel room and stayed up half the night catching up on "stuff".  Normally, we have all our boys [my two and her four], but this time, it was girls only.  You betcha we're going to do it again.

Last night, it got down to -8F or something ridiculous like that.  We sat in Cracker Barrel, in front of the enormous hearth, enjoying the roaring fire with our meal.  No pics sorry, we were too busy having a gabfest.  This morning, I went sightseeing, and it was nice without all the tourists.  But COLD!!!

Loved that house.  I also went to visit the lighthouse that I'd never been to.  It was closed, but pretty.  Didn't stay out of the car long!  I think it was 1F by that point.

Now this pic is looking toward Lake Huron from the lighthouse, which is on the St. Clair River....

The  trees on the right, across the river, are in Canada.  You see that white line that stretches across the horizon?  That's ice on the Lake.  The Great Lakes have something like 90% ice on them!!!!  Unheard of!

This is where I lost my nice warm gloves.  One of my favorite spots by the Bluewater Bridge.

And of course, I stopped at the quilt shop - Sew Elegant - and found the perfect fabric [I hope] for my new pattern.

Isn't that great fabric?  It ought to be, for what I paid for it.  Been awhile since I purchased anything new, lol.

So that was my lovely weekend.  I hope you had a good one too, and that you're enjoying warmer weather than I am....I'm back to working more hours, so my attendance at your blogs will be spotty at best.  But the paycheck gets me more fabric, and that's a good thing!

Keep thinking spring....spring....spring....
