I've been doing my Portholes pattern again, I had done it as a table runner but decided I want it as a wall-hanging. So it will be vertical instead of horizontal.
I added some flowers [french knots]. I used to make french knots the normal way, wrapping the needle 3 times, but Jenny of Elefantz shared that she only wraps once. I decided to try that, and I really like it. For one thing, it's much faster. The knots seem more like flowers to me. I'm not very good at them, but I'm sure I'll get better with practice.
What do you think? Should I add more flowers to these two portholes? I like the look, but I'm undecided if there should be more. This one, with the flowers in the window boxes, I really like as it is.
Close-ups - see? I'm not very good at the french knots, but I love them.
Now I need to get off this computer and find something to eat - you shouldn't blog on an empty stomach. I hope you're all having a wonderful week - I'll be by to visit you later tonight!

I'm glad you got the Pinterest problem fixed, and I think your French knots are very flowery (and doorknobby!) looking - the portholes are great!

Gorgeous pattern Allie....I so want to be on those beaches. I think your french knots are great.
Your French know flowers are fabulous! I love the rose bush and the window boxes the best. Keep on knotting.....
Oh Allie. These are so cute!
If you blog on an empty stomach, be sure not to visit any food blogs. Not a good thing ;-)
Wow. I think your french knots are great!!! Of course I am your biggest fan! Seriously you can do anything!!!
I remember printing these off the first time you did them! I really must get them stitched one of these days!

Your french knots look super to me, and I think your little vignettes have just the right amount of flowers. Your pattern is wonderful! And you're very generous to share with all of us. Thank you!
Allie, I love your porthole designs...they are adorable. Really think that surfboard sticking up out of the sand on the first one is too, too cute! And I think your French Knot flowers look great...I wouldn't change a thing!
XOXO,
Cyndi
Oh, these are great! I haven't seen them before. I think the only one I would add a few more flowers to is the middle one with the clothes line. But that's just me because I love flowers. I can't wait to get started on these. Thanks for sharing!
What a lovely pattern.
Regards
I misread your title, I thought it said POTholes like the holes in the street. I thought these look more like Portholes - and then re-read the title; they are portholes!! Very clever of you. I think what is missing on the one porthole is the choice of flower color - the pink doesn't stand out and catch your eye like the red flowers. Love your knots - I'll have to try the new way next time. Actually I love all the your stitching on it. Just beautiful and elegant!
Fabulous design and I so appreciate the pattern. The one block, not the new one or the window box one, maybe add another little bush on the other side, or take that one up further, like a climbing vine?
I vary the number of wraps depending on what kind of thread I'm using and what I want the effect to be (but I'm usually doing crazy quilting embellishing!) If I had two strands of floss, I'd wrap more times, and if I'm using #8 perle, I wrap only once. The trick to a perfect FK is to keep the thread snugged up to the needle all the way through the stitch. If it loosens just a little, you get a looser, sometimes not round, stitch. No one told me that, I just discovered it one day! Yours look good to me. If you aren't completely happy with them, the Colonial knot looks pretty much the same, and I believe it always turns out nicely round. =)
I remember those portholes, Allie! I think I have them somewhere on my computer. I really liked them then.
Your French knots came out great! I always used to make the French Knot with one wrap. Way back when, it never occurred to me to double or triple. I just used a heavier thread to make it bigger. Only recently I started doing extra wraps. I'm pretty sure that my bird piece that I posted for the TAST a few weeks ago, was all made with only singles.
Gorgeous Allie, I think your french knots are perfect!
Need a ginger dog and an old lady with a walking aid in it :-) :-) AS IF.. it's looking good Allie :-) perfect as Wendy said...
