Moving Right Along

Hi everybody, I'm missing you so!!!  Things are shaping up at Chez Allie, may I say I had no idea my house was so dirty - I am not the housekeeper I used to be, that's for sure.  Which almost kills me to admit, but it's the truth.  Having a party is a good incentive to clean it up though!

We've had some chilly mornings, but afternoons have been pleasant and mostly sunny.  Took a picture of the frost the other morning - you can see where the shadow of the "shed" kept the frost sticking around.

In my brief resting moments, I've been trying applique methods.  Needle turn did not go well, it never has, but I think I found my new favorite - starch and freezer paper!!!

I use the little flathead screwdriver to help turn the fabric under, while I press it dry, keeps my fingers from getting burned.  I'm going to use the bias tape marker for stems and lettering.  I watched this video

and oh is it good.  Now to see if I can get it stitched on the background fabric successfully, lol!  I may be moving to more applique and not so much embroidery - I've had trouble with double vision in my right eye lately, it's very annoying.  Before the end of the year, I have to find an eye dr. that takes my insurance.  We'll see if it will be worth all the trouble, lol!

I have to show you a picture that Carol sent me, she made my free Cup Of Kindness mug rug for a craft show - didn't she do a lovely job!!!

The dresdens are her own design!!  I was thrilled to see her beautiful work.  Thank you Carol, for sharing!

I think that's it for now, I'll leave you with an unsatisfactory picture I took of the moon the other night.  My camera wouldn't focus on the moon, just the trees - the moon had a HUGE halo, it was so pretty.

Be well, be blessed.....

Love,

Allie

I expect to see a lot of applique from you now.

The moon shot is pretty imho. Nicely framed. Anxious to see your finished product with your new techniques. Have a lovely week, Allie.

I noticed the same thing when I cleaned for the holidays, lol.
I am lazy, I just turn as I go, but would be nice to prep pieces to make it easier to sew.
We got clouds so no moon tonight.

I've been thinking about needle-turn lately too...your petals look beautiful!
Allie, that's a beautiful moon shot, different, so it's beautiful in an almost surreal way. xxx

Very nice applique, I do it the same way, for me it works better than Needle turn.

You are way ahead of me with deep cleaning your house - that is still ahead of me :) - but I have started my baking. Beautiful projects by Carol, love them. I use freezer paper method too, but usually just zigzag the rough edges. Your way looks lovely!

Greetings my dear friend! I'm with you on the housekeeping part, especially hard for me with a young pup in our family! I love your new applique method. I'm hoping to experiment with applique techniques in the new year. Hugs and hugs, Mickie

I have never been able to do applique. It just frustrates me. But yours looks great! And we shared the moon the other night. It was HUGE!

Good to hear from you Allie. We are having frosty mornings too. Looking forward to seeing your applique - it is something that is on my list for next year! Did quite a lot years ago so need to get back in practice. xx

That's the way I applique, too. Needle turn is not for me! Good to see you, sweet Allie!!

I couldn't master needleturn, but found Starch to be my friend! Can't wait to see all your pretties.

The moon photo is beautiful! That moon really was grand the other night.

Brrrrrrrr that frost will be snow within the next few days - for us, at least! I was having hot flashes last night and couldn't sleep, so I stepped out onto the porch @ 1:00 a.m. - it was RAINING! And tomorrow afternoon, we're expecting snow :D Well - we knew it was coming, but I wouldn't have minded a green Christmas, TBH :D

The only type of applique I've mastered is the zigzagged raw edges type :D My sewy aquafit friend likes the turn under kind - the smaller the pieces - the better! I can't even look at anything that's smaller than my 6.5X6.5" ruler, haha!

I've been wondering what you've been up too. Nothing like guests coming to get you busy cleaning. Freezer paper applique is my favorite too. It takes some prep work but then you can take your project with you and sew on the go. Guess what. We got snow this morning. Not just a dusting. Can't see the grass. Winter is here.

I use the freezer paper method, too, but limit myself to simple shapes. Have a fun party in your clean house!

Sometimes I think the only time our house gets a good cleaning is when I know someone is coming over!
This was an excellent video and isn't she a great teacher. I've never used the starch but will definitely be trying it. Thanks for sharing.
Eye problems are not fun...hope you get that sorted out Allie.

Your prepped applique looks great! I tend to be lazy and not like prepping my blocks. The moon shot is pretty. I think sometimes you have to have a party to give your house a proper clean. I am having one next week, and yes, my house magically got much dirtier so I have more to clean!

I love company - just like you, it inspires me to clean!

I've done and like the starch and freezer paper method too. It takes a bit of preparation but the edges turn out crisp and the points pointy! I love embroidery too but I too find it strains my eyes. Sometimes I give in and do some but usually end up saying it will be last embroidery project. How many times have I said that!

I don't clean as well as I used to either. More important things to do like study or stitch or see . . . 😉 you get the idea 😁
