Glorious Summer

So far, this getting up before the crack of dawn is working quite well for me.  The only other time I can remember being able to rise so early is when I was in the military.  I'm thoroughly enjoying it this time!  Not so much then.....as it meant getting dressed and running 5 miles before breakfast.

Not much happening here lately, I must admit that with the 4th of July coming it's getting hard to sleep - everyone around here seems to buy their fireworks in advance, and party every night.  Don't they work???

I've been stitching a new little series of country designs, apt as I'm now living in the country in the city.  I'm falling asleep to the smell of bonfires every night (in addition to the sound of fireworks), and enjoying the bird song every morning.  So peaceful, mostly.

Sweet Country Welcome is the first in the series. (click on title to go to my shop]

The pattern is for the stitchery only - it measures 8" x 5".  I think there will be four of them.  I have three drawn up, and a solid idea of what the fourth will be.  The additional themes will be home, love and faith.  I have to run out today and get a new pigma pen for tracing onto copier paper, some fusible interfacing, and a new box of rubber finger cots - they really help my arthritic fingers pull the needle through.  The one I've been using is falling apart, and I'm constantly stitching bits of rubber into my design.  Not a good look.

I haven't decided whether or not I'll make a small quilt, four little pillows, or what.  Whichever I decide, I'll do a tutorial on the blog when the four designs are done.

I'll be around to see you soon - we're gearing up for a party on the 4th, we'll be celebrating my oldest son turning (gasp) 25 years old!  His birthday is this Friday, but everybody is working.  I need to go start cleaning......

Love,
Allie

Congrats on getting up so early. Me...lol I've been sleeping in. I love your new design. It is so sweet. I know what you mean about the fireworks. It really bothers my dog. Hugs

Cute little stitchery! I love that I can get up whenever I want now that I'm retired. Most days it's pretty early, but some days . . . .

Some days I can get up at 5 o'clock, others not so early. I can't get to bed before 11:30 most nights. I guess it's a good thing I am retired and I can make or change my schedule. Sometimes I feel guilty about sleeping in, but then I remind myself I'm retired and I do what I want!!!

I hear you about those fireworks! Here where I live, they are legal, the Indian reservations all sell them, so they will never be banned. There is a three day restriction on using those fireworks though. I still think that is silly, the 4th of July is on the 4th, not for three days before! It wouldn't bother me so much except that my poor outside critters panic for three nights in a row! (I have two horses and a heard of goats.) I also have dogs and cats inside who have their own moments of panic. I try to keep the volume up on the TV as long as I can, but they still hear some of the bigger bangs.
I really like your Sweet Country Welcome pattern. As soon as I can get some of my projects moving forward to close to finishing, I will have to get those! They would look great in my house!

Love your new stitchery design, really sweet one. I never did get a chance to sketch but I got lots of inspiration. We have that here too, and they scare bean, so not fond of fireworks.

Love your new design!
Getting up early? Not as early as dh - 4:45 :-O As long as I'm up early enough before the air conditioning kicks in, I'm good.

Very cute design!! Love getting up early, but really procrastinate with getting out for my walks :)! Here, no fireworks are allowed except on the day of celebrations. We are celebrating Canada's 150th on July 1st, but Canadians somehow are not as patriotic as our American friends - so things are pretty quiet.

I love getting up early in the morning, between 5 and 5:30. It's easier in the summer because the sun is shining! It calls to me! Winter is harder, but I love the quietness of the morning.

Iowa now has changed the law and we can have fireworks. Every.Night. Boom. Boom. Boom. Getting old fast!

Hi Allie, I am an early riser...after over 30 years with the alarm set at 6:30 it got embedded. I like to walk the dogs and have a coffee before I have to get breakfast for Hubby. A little alone time. Meanwhile I love that new design and will definitely be checking it out. You talented thing you! Happy glorious 4th!!

I'll bet when you were running 5 miles every morning, you were in great shape! I'd be happy if I could WALK 5 miles in these TN hills! I like your new stitchery very much, and the idea for the others. Great creativity! I have a friend who had her first two sons born one year apart - both on July 4th! Enjoy your combination celebration - people here do that early firecracker thing, too. Or else they just like doing the firecracker thing any time!

Great design Allie. I always feel so much better when I get up early - although not as early as five am! I can get so much more done first thing in the morning. xx

Sweet Country Welcome is very pretty - my sunflowers never grew that big when I had them! I know the feeling of having a kiddo reach a milestone age like that ... my oldest is now 28 and my youngest just turned 27. I stopped counting birthdays officially when I hit 29, but started again at 50 (50 was my I do what I want! moment) - otherwise my kids would soon be older than their mom ... lol! ;)
