Random Thoughts On A Thursday

Now, folks, I am not a cook.  I think it's time that could better spent sewing, truthfully.  All that work, folks eat it in five minutes, then you have to wash dishes?  Sigh.  So today, for the first time ever, I boiled a whole chicken.

One word.  YUCK!

Hubby does our turkey every year, brilliantly.  I'm happy to let him.  But cooking a whole chicken....first you have to give it a bath, and take out whatever it is it's wearing internally....then boil it....then you have to let it cool...then you have to touch really gross things and remove them while the dog climbs your legs...I'm sorry, I've seen things today no quilter should ever have to look at.

And that was only the first step!  I made a casserole with the chicken.  Of course, I now have more chicken for next week...but still.  UGH.  If any of you do this on a regular basis, you have my utmost admiration.

Have I told you my camera is broken?  Yes, I'm very sad.  The shutter button fell off, and about three hundred little parts fell out of the opening.  I'm using my son's Nikon CoolPix.  I like the little size, but I don't like the way the pics turn out.  That's why there's no pics of my chicken here.  But then, thought you really wouldn't want to see it anyway....you can thank me now.

I guess that's it.  There's a few more hours left to get in on my give-away, I hope I remember  - please someone remind me.  I'm exhausted from my domestic duties.  I'm heading over to Pinterest to do some massive, relaxing pinning....meanwhile, for your viewing pleasure, here are some funnies.....

Oh you poor thing. I've been married for 10 years, and quickly learned that cooking the meat is the MAN's job. I cook things like potatoes and veggies. Fortunately, my DH loves to cook. Yay for me. And now that he's unemployed, he has more time for it. And......he's done laundry the last two weeks. I think I like having a househusband. What kind of casserole did you make?

EWwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww @ chicken juice - that's why I have a bottle of bleach in my kitchen! Hubby and the kids think I go overboard with the bleach, but they haven't died yet from salmonella poisoning, so I must be doing a good job!

So - how was the casserole, anyways? Tonight for supper I made ... orange ginger beef, rice pilaf, steamed carrots + green+yellow beans, and chocolate chip squares. Oh - and crockpot full of beef barley soup, but it's for tomorrow :D Chicken gets cooked by hubby on the BBQ because this girl ---->ME!<---- doesn't know how to use, and won't learn how to use, the BBQ ;)

Made me smile. Love the flamingo.
I don't cook - actually I don't like to cook. I don't mind laundry though, but if anyone wants to cook, I let them.

Girl, you made me laugh and snort! I used to cook the "meat and potatoes" routine because that is what hubs wanted. Somewhere along the line, I realized that I enjoy certain foods he doesn't. Then I started watching Food Network and all hell has broke loose! Now I do all sorts of funky things with fresh herbs, making my soup stock, sauces, pickles, etc. But, I digress. Just remember one thing....snag one of those rotisserie chickens near the check out. Easy peasy I tell ya. Love your sailor pattern, it rocks~~Elaine

One of my "claims to fame" is that I have N.E.V.E.R. cooked a whole chicken and never intend to cook a whole chicken..... that's what skinned chicken thighs and breast fillets were invented for! I do stir frys... over and over and over. I'm with Elaine... a roast chicken from the store is the only time you will see a roast chicken in my kitchen!

Too cute is the word for your pattern too.... I need a little baby boy to come into our family somehow just so I can make this pattern!

Never boiled a chicken, and after that description I think I will pass.....
I do like cooking though, mainly baking a cake tends to last longer

Love your funnies

I have only cooked whole chicken a couple of times just to make sure it couldn't be done. I so love the whole chickens already cooked from Coles or Woolworths.
Love the laughs :D

Oh my! I guess I'm alone in the boat on this one. I cook whole chickens...yes, because I raise them, and don't find it that terrible! LOL The one good thing about raising your own chickens is that you don't have to worry about the salmonella factor. I do admit that boiling a whole chicken is not as fun as roasting one....or as tasty in mho :) So sorry you didn't have fun with it, Allie!
On a side note. My daughter doesn't cook them either, at least not much, and when she does she dons her gloves!! She gets completely grossed out by them. LOL

LOL! I hate cooking too, especially meat. Those photos at the bottom crack me up too. Go recover from cooking and enjoy yourself!

Ewwww...Touching parts no quilter should touch. *shudder* Going to go touch some pretty, pretty fabric until that vision is erased from my mind.

Girl, we do need to be neighbors!! I could get you over that in a hurry!! Man-oh-man!! You have NO idea what you are missing out on! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to cook and no-way is a funky chicken gonna get the best of me!! I LOVE to eat more than I love to cook, and shhhh, don't tell anyone but love to cook more than sew, quilt or anything else! Oh dearie, the things I could teach you....

The pics are adorable even if they aren't from your super cool camera we still get the idea, and girl have you ever got the camera eye!!

I don't cook whole chickens either - I buy them cut already so I don't have to see the parts I don't want to see. I am sorry about your camera troubles, but in this one instance, I am glad it spared us from looking at private chicken parts.

Oh my, if you grew up in my family boiling a chicken would have been one of the first cooking lessons you would have had. We love our chicken and noodles and you start that by boiling a whole chicken for the broth and then pulling every last bit of chicken off the bones to add back in the broth with the noodles. Yummmmy!

Ugh. Boiled chicken doesn't even sound like something I want to eat, let alone cook. =P But I did like the LOLs! Thanks!

I do cook whole chickens alot but I don't like to boil them. I throw mine in the crockpot. I don't like the way a chicken smells when you boil it. Yuck!

p.s. If I don't cook...we don't eat.

LOL! LOL! LOL!LOL! I am cracking up over those photos especially that flamingo. I showed all the photos to my husband too. He didn't laugh out loud like me but he thought they were funny too. Just cracks me up.
I boil a whole chicken everytime I make homemade chicken soup. YUM!

Sorry about the camera. Bummer! I hate cooking too and totally think the time is better spent doing just about anything. So, I would gladly wash dishes (something I find relaxing) for anyone who cooks for me. And I NEVER complain about the food.

I do like to cook and I like trying new recipes. And I remember the first time I cooked a whole chicken, Yuk! I thought I would never do it again, but I was wrong. I have gotten so used to it, I don't even think about it anymore. I guess you could say I have become immune to the Yuk. Although I have never boiled a whole chicken. I hope you put in a few bay leaves to take out the stench (can I say that?) it causes. I do prefer sewing/quilting, but my husband insists we have to eat.
