WHEW

It's been a much cooler week here in Allie-land.  I only hope it is elsewhere too - so many millions of folks were without power in truly dreadful heat.  My aunt was without power for 5 days after five storms came through July 3rd, knocking out our holiday grilling party.  102F with no a/c?  I don't think so.

Not much sewing going on.  Lots of this though....

This poor bunny.  The chipmunks [can you see him?] were mad at him for eating the seed under the bird feeder, and they would run right at him and under him.  He would jump straight up in the air, look around wildly, and resume eating.

Cheeky little things.

It was lovely getting up at dawn and watching the birds come in for breakfast.

Those pics are all taken at my aunt's house, before the storm.  I love her house...this is my favorite room...

Doesn't that look so inviting?  When the air conditioning is working, anyway.

My friend Sandra at Sandra Sews has issued me a challenge.  She wants me to sew for just 15 minutes a day.  You know, I think I can do that!  By hand or machine, only 15 minutes is not too bad.  I do have a new pattern....

I saw it on Pinterest, and had to have it.  My son bought it for me, isn't that sweet?  Someone raised those boys right.  *G*

I've uploaded a free pattern for you, to my google docs.  It's Pam's Poppy.  Can't remember exactly when I finished it, but I finally uploaded it.  I'd love to see if you make it, especially in batiks...I really, really want to make it in batiks.

The link to the pdf file is here.  I'll add it to the free pattern page as soon as I remember how. [edit: pattern is no longer free.  Can be found in my craftsy shop, link on sidebar.]

I hope you all have a great week, I think I'm finally back to blogging a bit more.  My google reader is cleaned out, but it sure builds up fast.  We have another heat wave coming, hopefully I can talk hubby into putting the a/c unit in my room so I can stay home - I miss sewing, and internet when I'm not here!  Have a great week, everyone!

So pleased it is cooler for you this week, Allie. Love those pics of the chipmunk and rabbit.
The Stowaways quilt pattern looks so cute, and such fun to make.

Hmmm, I wonder what I did wrong with raising my brood. They don't even take the hint that there is a quilt store in the city that they visit. They are all travellers but don't think of lowly me. Actually, I shouldn't say that. Mark and his wife brought home a mask for me from New Zealand. I collect them - so they done good. Oh Allie, get some A/C into your room. You can't go through life just reading and taking great photos. We have the heat and dreadful humidity here too but I do not suffer. Central air is such a blessing.

So wonderful to watch the critters in the yard, so fun when they are all out. Love the new pattern, that looks fun to do.

Thanks for sharing the bunny and chipmunk with us! Such good pictures and cute little story. 15 minutes a day huh, well, I would like to take you up on that challenge. I've done that before. I was very pleased with my process. What are you going to be working on? Your new pattern? Can't wait to see that one as you work on it.

Wow Allie, your camera takes great pictures. And I hope you can get an A/C unit in your sewing room ;-)

Nice post Allie--those little critters are so cute! I agree--if you can get a room AC unit going, you'll be more comfortable. (i see you're still an early riser ;-)

I am sure watching those little critters in the yard is fun. Oh, how horrible to not have AC.
Such a cute quilt pattern. have fun making it.

ROTFL @ chippy versus bunny, haha!

If hubby doesn't put the a/c in your sewing room, you just march your butt over to my house and we'll sew in the basement - since I share it with the air conditioner and furnace, it may be noisy but it's always cold in summer and warm in winter!!! ;)

Did you do your 15 minutes today, hmmm? I finished a cute boxy bag this morning and got started on a tall pouch - I'm about to head back downstairs to finish the pouch and work on some penguin stuffies :D 15 minutes tends to turn into 2 hours :D

I so feel your discomfort with that heat. I am totally loving winter right now and really am not looking forward to those summer scorchers. Glad you could visit your aunt for relief. Love your poppy pic and what a wonderful son you have. :0)

I love the new pattern! The pup looks like our Ladybug! Glad you can spend a little more time at home. Hope the hubs puts an AC in your sewing room, or if in the bedroom just move the sewing machine in there. Sew on the bed. lol.!! Have a great weekend. Need to get a post up soon we start our vacation tomorrow at 5 pm...whoopie!!! I have not had a Monday through Friday off in 4 years. I am excited for the time off.

Such a nice photo of that room in your aunt's house. I like the shadows. You definitely do deserve an a/c in your room. But, then you'll have everyone hanging out with you, LOL!

It's cooler in TX as well. I just love all your wildlife photos! That's some great shots. I probably only average 15 minutes a day. Some days a little longer and lots of days nothing at all. It's only for fun anyway.

Glad to see you!
Bracing for the heat wave here as well. Turned the air off for the night, hoping we contine to at least get those breaks, but I won't hold my breath! 15 minutes a day isn't so bad, but I bet it turns into more :)

If it is cool in Alabama today, surely, it will be tolerable in Michigan!

That quilt pattern is adorable. You did raise a good son to listen to your request so well.

Hi Allie... hope it is getting cooler for you. Your photos are just gorgeous, as are your critters and their antics! I can't imagine being without power for 5 days.. ;your poor Aunt. The problem with your sewing for 15 minutes a day challenge is stopping after 15 minutes (once you get started, it's so hard to stop!!!) guess that's the idea. Thanks so much for the link to Pam's Poppy... it's so lovely. Take care, and stay cool xx

The break in the heat has been a welcome one, that is for sure. =)

i agree, your aunt's room looks very inviting. I could sit in there and sew all day long.

Love the bicycle pattern!

I can't believe it! It's raining!! WOW! We are so dry and need the rain badly! Praise the Lord!!

The Poppy is adorable! Thanks for sharing it!

Oh your poor auntie!! Love her house by the way.

I so agree with you Allie about sewing just a little bit a day. It seems like what we do gets put last on the list and then we never do it and wonder why we have a bad attitude. It's one of my goals too. To spend at least a little time in the sewing room working on 'my' stuff each day. Let me know how your goal goes girlie!

Your aunt's house looks lovely! And that's too funny about the chipmunks and the bunny! Poor guy just wanted some supper! LOL Love your poppy pattern...poppies are one of my favorite flowers! :0)

Love your quilt! Those animal pictures are great too. My cats love to watch the bunnies outside the screen porch. I'm sure they wish they could hunt them down. Loving this weather this week, too.

Okay Allie, I've haven't been on the computer much lately, but I just saw this post about Sandra's challenge to you for 15 Minutes a day sewing...mind if I join in? I think I can manage 15 minutes, even on my really bad days!!! I'm gonna give a try, starting today after church. My hope is that 15 minutes, will grow into more and more sewing time. Of course, I'm certain that was her plan anyway when she issued the challenge to you, LOL. Big Hugs sweet friend...

Lots of creatures around..lol I love your Poppy. You are so talented. Trying to get some hand applique done while on vacation. I think I can do 15 minutes a day. Hugs

Allie your poppy is beautiful! Love the pictures of the birds at the feeders. Remind me to send you a picture of a Great White Heron and Great Blue Heron that I photographed on my pond. Think you might enjoy it.

Keep up the beautiful work and thanks so much for all the patterns and bits you share with us.
