A Word About Spam

Don't you just hate it?  Me too.  I don't mean the kind you eat - I mean the kind that shows up on your blog.

I don't know how many of you know that blogger has a spam filter.  It WORKS.  Go to your Comments, and you'll see it.  I check mine daily, and that way they never make it into my email inbox.  Blogger will send them to your email if they sit for awhile.  The spam that makes it onto blogger never shows up on my blog, it stays in that folder until I delete it.

Because blogger has that wonderful feature, I've turned off word verification.  I've seen all the complaints around blogland about blogger's new 2-word verification, and I agree wholeheartedly with them.  It takes much longer to leave a comment now.  So you know, if you see a comment from me and you have that feature enabled, I must really love you.  Really, REALLY love you.

If you ever need help to turn off word verification, I will jump through flaming hoops to help you.  Just email me or leave a comment.  My pleasure, truly.

Off to the races - mum's taxi service is getting a workout today - be well, be happy, and sew something for me!

Thanks, I HATE those new 2 word verifications...I always get it wrong at least once !!
I have turned mine off as well, several months ago. I have not had any problem at all, so am happy to leave it off.

I turned off mine too, but the word verification is not so bad, I usually get it the first time. But, for me, I am getting some spam now, so will see how it goes.

I sure would love to see a conversation on having followers on your blog. I am still very undecided on this feature, because I know they do not follow. What is your thoughts on this. I cut my word verification off a while back-it was a nusiance for my friends. Judy C

I turned mine off a while ago and I agree, worth it.

Hi Allie - I checked mine after reading your post and can't find anything about word verification in my comment settings. I should go and make a comment to myself and see what happens, haha.

Those 2 word verifications drive me nuts! Blogger has been very good about keeping spam comments off my blog too.

I'm going to have to check that out. :-) I've already disabled the verification though.

The 2 word verifications are really annoying. I just have 1 word captcha on mine. It is much better. Those 2 word ones are so hard to read. It would be so much better if there were only real comments being posted. Only in a perfect world!

I think I turned it off a year or so ago when you told us you were turning yours off and had no problems. So far things are working great without it. Thanks for the info.

I'm the same as WoolenSails... I turned WV off and then was bombarded with the worst messages!! So now I have checked REGISTERED USERS in WHO CAN COMMENT and still left the WV turned off. I tried Comment Moderation but that's a pain!! I don't know if checking Registered Users is stopping some people being able to leave comments but they can always email me. Personally, I don't mind the WV and may still enable it on my blog again if I continue to get the unwanted messages. Blogger certainly has opened up a big can of worms on this subject, that's for sure!

I too :I turned WV off and received spams for the first time immediately after that and they are ON MY BLOG & in the spam folder too...strange !
I returned to word verification

I'm surprised at how many people don't even know they have the word verification turned on for their blog. It wasn't so bad before, but now it's just a pain!

a big AMEN on the anti-word verification message! thanks for spreading the word (and for the support on my blog, as well!)

As soon as I turned my word verification off, I received a huge six paragraph spam comment which wasn't picked up by Blogger as spam! Hmmm, may have to think about turning it back on! I hope you'll still come to visit, Allie!
