Hope You're Sitting Down

Cuz....*drum roll*...I have a finish!  First one of the year, isn't that sad.  But I do like it.

DSC05223    23

Haven't named it yet, haven't drawn a pattern yet, but I'm glad it's done.  I love it.

See those clouds?  I tried and tried to find a mostly white with black fabric that I liked for the background for the poppy, and couldn't.  So I made my own.  I drew them on and embroidered them with one strand of black floss.  Love the effect, but it would have been faster to find fabric I liked.  *G*  And the binding fabric wasn't that dark - I got it all put on, decided it blended into the border too much, so colored it with a black fabric marker.  All because I'm lazy, and didn't want to do a new binding!  Necessity really is the mother of invention.

I'd love to make it with Japanese prints, too, and I also want to make a bigger one with more blocks and some liberated, asymmetrical borders.  We'll see.

Now I'm relaxing with Lucy, and reading blogs.  Feels SO GOOD to have a finish!

You may notice a new linky follower on my sidebar, apparently Google has decided if it ain't broke, they have to fix it and will be canceling Google Friend Connect.  At the end of the month!  A few folks have started using Linky Follower so I thought I would try it too.  Any blogs I follow using google, I'll be looking to see if they have this, so I can follow using linky follower as well - don't want to lose anyone during the transition!  Darn google anyway.

My oldest son, John, got into a car accident yesterday, he's ok but his car is not.  It's still drive-able, but he'll probably use my car tomorrow.  First he hit a deer, and now this.  That poor car of his used to be so pretty!  I'm just so thankful he's ok.

Billie from BillieBee's Blog gave me the Versatile Blogger award, thank you so much Billie, but since I already did that post I'm not going to do it again - she's a great blogger and a great friend, go say hi!

Nothing else new here, I may be a bit quiet this week, I'm going to make a supreme effort to find a job.  If anyone has any leads, let me know!  I hope you all have a wonderful week!

I am so glad your son is ok!!! My grandaughter had a wreck last week but she is ok too. Her car used to be pretty too. (smile). Love your first finish of the year!!! I need it in my bedroom!!! It is gorgeous. At least you have finished something. I haven't even started anything because of my hands. So aggravating!

Glad to hear your Son is OK. Geez! Maybe you should keep him home lol.

Love your little wall hanging! A finish is a finish right? I think the clouds are adorable. I had to laugh at you coloring the binding. I've done that when white stitches have shown up on black fabric but not for an entire binding. Great thinking!

You are SO talented!!! What a beautiful piece of work. I am so confused about the GFC. I thought Google was only dropping people who did not have a blog ??!!?!?

Allie, what a super finish. You should enter it in the Modern Quilt Challenge. Here is a link in case you want to check it out.

So sorry to hear about your son's car. So glad he is alright though. Me and daughter have both been hit by a deer on our road. We did not hit them they really did run into our cars.

Perfect background for your poppy. A creative solution to your fabric problem. Poppies are such pretty flowers and you definitely captured the look.

Allie, this is stunning! Yes, enter it in the Modern Quilt Challenge. Glad your son is okay. About that Linky...is that just for blogs that are not Google's blogger?

Glad to hear your son is okay.

I just love your new finish. That's just so beautiuful Allie!

Only you could think of the black marker. Just goes to show how creative you are.

Thanks for the shoutout....grin.

I love the Poppy Quilt, and I'm so impressed with your ability to come up with a creative solution to not finding just the right background fabric. I think your embroidered cloud fabric is much cooler than anything you could have found in a store! Also, I think you are so right -- this pattern would look beautiful in Japanese fabrics.

So glad to hear your son is fine -- cars can be replaced, while sons definitely cannot.

Wow! Aren't you the talented one. That's beautiful and I think you did a wonderful job. You need to start publishing your patterns. Maybe another income for you.

Beautiful finish!! You are so clever and talented. I don't know what that means, that they are discontinuing Friends Connect. Does that mean we'll lose all the blogs we follow already? I'm not very savvy about this stuff.

I love your piece and the hand stitching, makes it so much more, your own and a piece of art.

I love your finish too! Great colors!

Glad to hear your son is okay.

The design is gorgeous. The red and black and white is very striking. That is a bit tricky to colour in the binding. I would never have thought of doing that. Glad your son is OK. Sad his car is not. I need to find out about the google friend connect issue and have a look at Linky.

Your new design is beautiful, Allie! So simple and great fabric choices. I did the Linky thing and added it to my blog, too. Will explain it to my readers in my next post (if I remember, LOL!)

So glad your son is OK, Allie. Several months ago, my son's new/used car flipped over and was totaled just a few hours after he had paid the insurance. He came out with barely a scratch, thank G-d. And, yes, he did get paid by the insurance and got right back on the horse and bought another car.

Good job on a finish! That's great! And it's really pretty! Good luck with the job thing. What kind of thing are you looking for?

Oh Allie, thank goodness your son is ok. Cars are replaceable. My son has been driving for about 4 months and even though he's a good driver I still worry about him. It's like 'I just can't relax' when he gets behind the steering wheel and feel relieved when he come in through the door!! Love, love, love your poppy quilt. It was so clever of you to find a solution to the binding(:>).
Good luck with the job hunting.

Oh my that is just stunning...and I love, love, love the stitched clouds! I'm so glad to hear you son is okay. My oldest daughter has been in a couple of accident and I know how awful it is to have that experience as a Mom.

Congrats on the finish!
Love it!
Seems the weekend for kids and accidents, Kodey was in one this weekend, Friday to be exact. The weather over here was horrible and he took a corner too fast and spun out, landing in the ditch. He too is ok, but the car needs two new bumpers. Over the last 4 years with him I think this is accident 5 or 6 now.
