Did Ya Miss Me?

Cuz I missed you!  I've been visiting all your blogs, just not commenting - I've been BUSY.  Not sewing - just changing my whole perspective!

Remember how bad of a night owl I am?  Well, I've always wanted to be an early morning person.  The Lord brought to my mind the scripture that "ye have not, because ye ask not", so I asked Him to help me become a morning person.  The very next day I was up at 5am!  Every single day last week, I was up at five, and in bed by 9pm, with no tossing and turning, no insomnia, just right to sleep.  The first day I only got 4 hours of sleep, the second day only five hours, but it worked.  This weekend, I decided to sleep in until 6am. *G*  I'm loving this!!!  I even got to see this....

That is DAWN.  In my front yard.  And I didn't have to stay up all night to see it!

Also, I won a give-away, from Michelle Ridgway - another superb Australian designer, I just love her!   She's an absolute sweetheart and I'm honored to call her friend!  Not only did she send me these delightful gifts...

Look at that sweet little lace heart, I think I'm going to design something for the center of it...some sweet green fabric with polka dots....rose cards...darling needlebook....precious rose button....and two of her gorgeous patterns!!!  But that's not all, she sent a little gift for my mum!

Isn't that too sweet?  She said the Christmasaholics need to stick together.  She decorates like my mum, lol - love how they both go all out for the holiday!  Do go check out Michelle's patterns, they are so sweet - thank you so much Michelle, I love it all!  And I was right, Shirley wants me to make the bear for her!

Mum and I went to Shirley's this week, what a treat.  Shirley has been away from sewing since her hubby died, almost 3 years ago.  Well, she got some inspiration and made a pillow, how gorgeous is this....

She also pulled out an antique quilt that she has.  Oh my gosh, I love it so much....it's all hand-pieced, all hexagons, even the aqua background is hexagons.  The lime green border is one piece.  I just think it looks so fresh and modern still!  It's machine quilted.  Someone in her hubby's family made it, she's not sure who.  Martha, any ideas on how old this is?

I'm almost back to commenting on all your blogs, although I have some catching up to do!  Bear with me, I'm getting used to this whole new schedule, I get super sleepy at the time I used to read blogs, so I have to find a new time of day to do that!  Probably early morning, after I breakfast with my son and see him off to work.  It sure is different seeing the world from an early bird perspective, and I love it!  I'm sure I'll get it all figured out soon.  And now I'm off to read some blogs!

A pic of Greta, just cuz....

Good for you getting up early Allie! I'm up by 6 every morning to get the kids off to school. I love looking at the stars while they're waiting for the bus, and I love to see the sunrise. There are so many things I'd miss if I slept later.

Yes, I've missed you! Wow. You are changing a whole schedule! That is a big step but congrats for doing it! I love the mornings. I've always been the other way around. I get the most work done in the mornings and the evenings I'm ready to crash!

I love the sweet gifts you received and that GFG is gorgeous! My oh my. What a gift. I love those :) Still working on mine and probably will be my whole life. But remember I have that other half to fulfill :D :D

Nice to hear from you!

Welcome back. I did miss you. No worries about not commenting. You never have to! I am so glad you are doing well and feeling good about things. I love reading blogs first thing in the morning while I eat breakfast. Like my morning paper (which I never could get into)....starts my day off right. :-)

Welcome back, Allie! You always win the best stuff. I can't wait to see what you design for the center of that cute little heart.

As for the quilt, most of those prints look like 40s and 50s dress cottons, but I think I see a couple that look like 1930s patterns. It may be a quilt put together from a scrap bag that spanned more than one decade. In any event, it's gorgeous, and I especially like the unusual combination of the green and aqua.

I am so glad you are back. Congratulations on your win from Michelle. I just love her designs and she is such a sweetie. Love the vintage quilt. I still have hexes to finish. Your sweet Greta likes taking pictures. My Duchess does not like to have her picture taken.

Hi Allie and welcome back...I was so happy when I saw your post show up in my Reader. I think that hexagon quilt is so cool. It might be old, but the aqua hexagon background paired with the lime borders is so modern looking. I love the two colors together...hmmm...I think I might have to do a lime and aqua quilt :)

Welcome back early bird!

Tell Shirley welcome back to sewing. Her cushion is amazing!! Who knew we had such an artist in our midst.

Lovely gifts too, and the ornament - very yummy and fat free!

Hope your new schedule works! Sounds healthier and more natural.

Ah, there you are. Believe it or not, I am both a night owl and a morning person. I'm glad you got your body clock changed. Nothing like getting things done first thing in the morning.

Good luck on changing your sleep time. Have been missing you. That is a lovely prize you won. Looks like a lot of fun to play with.

I have missed you! Glad to see you back!
I live in a very strange world, I am second shift at heart, but with kids I am up by 7 every weekday morning. Weekends I like to sleep in a bit since we usually don't get to bed till 2'ish. It is rough and once the kiddies move out I am sure we will become second shift completly.
There are some beautiful things to see in the morning, the sunrise is usually something else :)

Mary-Kay said...

Glad to see you are okay. I thought something was wrong. Whew!!! I like being a morning person but I could easily become a night owl. Depends on the day of the week.

The gingerbread ornament is so cute! I like the decorative stitching on it.

I am not a morning person. Well, I wake up early some times when I am having trouble sleeping but I still am not ready to go to bed early. I hope you can continue on your quest for becoming an early riser. I think it can be a peaceful time and many people say that get a lot done by getting up early.

'Course we missed you :0). I love those early mornings - but can't put them to as much use as I'd like in my very full house at the moment, lol.

I hate to tell you this, sweetie, but time actually starts at 9:00 a.m. There IS nothing before that! Even though my husband and kids leave for work by these things they call "5:00 a.m." and "5:30 a.m.", time hasn't started then - I know that for a FACT!!! BTW - have I mentioned that I'm a night owl? LOL!

Great to have you back! Hmm...about the antique quilt, the top may be old, but the quilting might not be that old. I have that design, and it came with my Gammill machine 16 years ago. You are so lucky to win such beautiful things, and have such good friends. (I'm a morning person!)

Sweet gifts for you and your mom.
Wow! you are right about that quilt. You would never guess it was vintage by the colors. I love it and I so love seeing Greta. Makes me miss my girls. I have been thinking about getting another dog lately.

No need reply because that takes time too. I completely understand. I have been forcing myself to go to bed earlier and because of that I have no idea when to read blogs. I should not be reading them now in fact. In fact, I will stop right here and go check on how math is going...

I have two of the photos in those close-ups, so I am predicting 1940's perhaps (maybe 50's, not 30's I don't think) -- LOVE LOVE LOVE the colors in that quilt! Welcome back, Allie. You were missed indeed.
