My newest finish.

And first, the backstory.
I had won some fabric from Mary at Quilting In The Sunshine State, bless her. Black, white and yellow - gorgeous! An idea popped into my head and I started designing. Does anyone remember the song, Lemon Tree? I believe it came out in 1962, sung by Peter, Paul and Mary. My mother played it incessantly. Or maybe it just seemed that way....anyway, I wanted to include some lyrics and make a lemon tree quilt.
I also wanted it to look like some of the artwork from the 60's - colorful and kind of sketchy. One of the fabrics reminded me of pop art, and that's the one I chose for the tree and leaves. I'm very happy with the way this mini-quilt came out, it looks just like it did in my head. How often does THAT happen!

I stitched around the applique pieces with one line of straight stitching, in black. That gave me the sketchy look I was going for. This is a small quilt, won't be washed in the machine, so that is sufficient to hold the pieces.
If you'd like to make a Lemon Tree of your own, I've uploaded a pdf file so you can. I put a warning on it - you have to print with NONE checked next to Page Scaling, or it won't come out proper size. It's a wonder I have any hair left, it took me awhile to figure that out.
I hope you like my Lemon Tree - if you do make one, I would love to see!

I had that first PP&M album and I loved that song. Your little quilt is so perfect -- the design and the prints remind me of the 1960s (I had a mini tent dress with a very similar print). It is great when the idea in your head turns out just the way you envisioned it, and it look wonderful!
What a refreshing looking piece!
Wow! That is so cool. Great design and very pretty!
What a wonderful quilt to commemorate a great song. You did a superb job. Is the quilt for you or your mom????

That is so lovely - I think those black white & yellow fbrics are a real challenge - a perfect solution. All the music from the 60s was good - giving my age away eh?? and I do remember "Lemon Tree". Thanks for being so generous with your idea.
This is such a lovely design. I'm going to make it up very soon. Thank you so much for sharing your pattern.
I love Peter Paul and Mary and this is one of my all-time favourite songs (along with Puff the Magic Dragon and Blowing in the Wind)... love your quilt - a perfect interpretation of the song!
Allie.....I just love it...thanks so much for the pattern....Peg xx
Very, very cute! And now I'm singing away...LOL!
Great job, Allie. And you're right...it is very 60's looking.
PP & M were one of my favorite folk groups of that era. I even learned to play a four string guitar because that's one of the instruments that Paul played.
Congratulations Allie, super pattern. Of course I remember song. Thank you for sharing pattern. Jenny told me about you.
Hugs,Faye
Where to begin - this is so wonderful! I love the design, the colors, everything! I haven't looked at the PDF yet, but does it say how you did the lettering? The font is perfect for this.
Really appealing. Makes me want to find some black, white and lemon fabric myself, to use the same colours, you did. It would be the only way the whole effect would work.
