Some Like It Hot [and a Give-Away]

Yes, some like it hot.  Me, not so much.  I love summer, honest, but 90F is a wee bit too much.  Especially when it's humid.  So no sewing around here, because sewing means ironing - sorry Charlie, not gonna happen.

Instead, I've been doing lots of this.

I knew it would be very warm, so I stocked up at the library.  The bottom four have been read.  I'm supposed to be making this -

My mom wants a messenger bag to carry on the plane with her, she's going to Arizona.  In June.  Better her than me.  She needs to carry her insulin on the plane and assorted other goodies, and needs a bigger purse.  We got the fabric last week, but it needs ironing [see above].  I'll be adding lots of pockets to this one, including a cell phone pocket on the gusset.  I'll also be making one for myself....first, to make sure I don't mess up hers.

I also need to take this picture out of its frame and do something else with it.  It's my mum's, it was hanging in her room as a child.  It has a cardboard backing and no glass on the front, so it's in rough shape.

Aren't the faces just the sweetest?

This one doesn't involve ironing, so it just might happen.

And now, about the give-away.  Joanne from Splitting Stitches is giving away a quilt kit for a darling quilt!  Go check it out!  She has a lovely blog and is a wonderful quilter!

I had been hoping that during this heat wave I could catch up on the Blogger's Quilt Festival.  But my computer has been running VERY hot - the fan just kept coming on, so I had to shut it down most of the day.  I would get up very early and check email, then off it went.  Turned out the processor was very dusty and grimy - dh washed it for me and now it's running well.  Scary stuff and boy do I need to do a back-up!  Maybe tonight when it's cooler.

Have a wonderful weekend, and for all you in the States, a lovely Memorial Day holiday.  Remember all those who fought and died for us, and who are fighting still.

I wish we could trade places today, Allie -- it's 45˚ here and drizzling.

I love that bag design and can't wait to see how yours turn out -- I think my laptop would fit in that bag.

The picture is adorable. I have had pretty good luck removing marks from that kind of backing using a Staedtler Mars plastic eraser (any art supply store will have one). That's also what I use to remove coloring from antique books. It's very gentle and won't damage the backing.

Do you have the middle book by Nancy Turner? I see one and three in your stack! That picture from your mom would make a cute stitchery! :0)

I'm with you. It's too hot to do anything but sit and read. I love Michigan weather. That picture of your Mom's is so cute. Can't wait to see the bag you make for her. Enjoy your weekend.

Wow! I guess Gerald and I are in for a shock because here in Nova Scotia we never see 90º. I have been warned by our tour guide to pack light!
The bag the print are absolutely lovely!
Happy memorial day!

the picture is gorgeous, Allie. Have fun with your bag-making - you are such a good girl to make one for your mother. And I'm with you about the heat - I hate Ballarat summers; way too hot for me at mid-30s to early 40s; wintry and wet here today and about 11 degrees. I am battling the remains of a bad cold so am staying cosily inside with books, stiching and cups of tea.

It was a beautiful day here today but it did get a little warm. I worked out in the garden some. It suppose to rain but hasn't started yet. I hope you have a great weekend.

Hope it cools down for you soon, Allie!

I haven't had a chance to get through much of the Bloggers Quilt Festival yet, either, and my computer is doing just fine. :)

What you describe about your computer doesn't sound good. You should have it checked out. It could be that all you need is a new fan.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Everything is topsy turvy, weather-wise! We have had a lovely 80 degree Saturday in the desert and you are roasting way up North! I hope you get some relief, but I hope we keep our mild spring a bit longer!

Still cold on Prince Edward Island, allie :( ... well on the Eastern End i should say.

What's that garden book like? Nancy Turner is the author? Sounds like something i'd love.

You must read The Forgotten GArden, it's wonderful!

that looks like the tote i want... another blogger made one and i asked if she'd make me one, haven't heard from her yet though. It's perfect for a notepad, pencils, electronic thesaurus, and lots of other thing for in case.

I love the picture! it's beautiful :)

Let me know what you think of that Thinking With a Pencil book when you get to it. It looks really interesting and our library doesn't have it.

Which books did you really like?

I adore that picture -- glad to see you're going to show it some TLC. You're obviously a good daughter, Allie! And Phoenix in June isn't so bad . . . it's a dry heat (which we in the midwest can only dream of). Happy hot holiday!

that sounds like a great way to spend some warmer days Allie! It's only 70 here today and not supposed to get above 80 this week. I love weather like this!
