So What Do You Do....

when you're starting a new project, and you go to the fabric store cuz your stash is depleted, and you can't find just the right color fabric?

You pull these out....

and make your own.

On a totally different note, I don't watch much tv, just the local news and Lost. I'm hooked on Lost and anxious for it to be over...just so I won't be hooked on it anymore. What I do like is borrowing dvd's from the library. One that I borrowed last week is The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, a show on HBO. I LOVE it. I had tried to read the books but all the names threw me for a loop, but the series is wonderful! Very funny and lighthearted. If you get a chance, see if your library has the dvd's or if you have cable, you can watch it on HBO.

I love the #1 Ladies Detective Agency books! I read them all as they came out, but you are right about the titles. They are so strange and unconnected to the story that after awhile, I forgot which ones that I had read! I saw the first season of the show on DVD. I hope it is not the only season!

Great color for the fabric! Can't wait to see what you are making!

Way to go Allie - I am really looking forward to seeing what you create with your new fabric.

I know what you mean about tv - I don't watch it at all (I cancelled my cable). I found that if I sat down to watch something on a weekend morning, half the day evaporated and I accomplished nothing. It wouldn't have been bad except that most of what is on tv is ridiculous drivel. I do enjoy movies though, so thanks for the heads up on the #1 Ladies Detective Agency. So you're making your own custom colored fabric? That's fabulous! I can't wait to see your project.

I'm not a big TV watcher. We check out movies at the library too. I love our library. I haven't seen the show but I'll have to keep an eye out for it at our library. (no cable here either)

Painting fabric is a good idea. I always thought that was cheating, but now I've seen so many beautiful quilts with hand dyed fabric, and painted faces, etc., I think it is just another technique to add to the repertoire.

I don't have cable either - never had it, and many of my friends are shocked that I can survive without it.

We like No one Ladies Detective Agency, not on that often, shame.

Oh what colour are your fingers :-)
Mine are always covered in paint no matter how many pairs of gloves I wear, think they might have holes!

how fun! I've always wanted to experiment with fabric altering.

I'm a total Lost fan here. We discovered it last winter...would have been much better if we started watching it this summer, so we wouldn't have to wait for a new episode each week :)

I like tv but I'm not adicted to it. It's mostly for background noise. I'd rather listen to my IPod but I always leave it in my car. I read a couple of the boooks and the names are different. I'd like to watch the dvd so I'll have to go check it out at the library. Actually i think my mom has the series. What are you planning on making with that blue fabric? Looks interesting.

I have never heard of the Ladies Detective Agency books or show. So what are you doing to that fabric? Painting.

I can't wait to see what you're doing with that painted fabric -- it really looks interesting.

Thanks for the tip -- I will definitely check out the #1 Ladies Detective Agency. We watch television almost every night -- mostly Turner Movie Classics or series from HBO, Showtime or AMC that we rent from Netflix. It's when I do most of my handwork -- embroidery, piecing or quilting. I enjoy it, but only if I can sew.

This is why I dye all my fabric - no more shopping for just the right color! It's now the only reason, but less shopping is a big PLUS! ;-)

hi ya, just popped by for a visit, loved your colour fabrics, can't wait to see what you are going to do with it. I am a bit of a TV fan too, but not familiar with the #1 Detectives Ladies, I like to sit in and stitch in the evening, with an eye on tele too!

Love the free-form style... what a good way to cheer up your surroundings! And that curtain is so cute! Glad to see you're still out there sewing something! More than I"m accomplishing at the moment (sigh)

Hugs
